Note: After the unpleasant experience of dealing with a large plastic bin of important documents that got soaked with rainwater (thanks to a tiny crack in the lid) I went on a search for the best way to go paperless. My original post about it is here. Here are my reviews of the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M, the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300, Shoeboxed.com, and a tiny portable scanner fron NeatCo called NeatReceipts. What follows is my review of a larger scanner from NeatCo called NeatDesk.

As you can see from the photo above, the NeatDesk scanner ($385, left) is significantly larger than the NeatReceipts scanner ($185, right). It’s about the same size as the ScanSnap S1500M ($419), and takes up the same amount of desktop space. It’s an attractive appliance, and brings to mind the shiny white plastic appliances in Kubrick’s 2001 A Space Odyssey.

There is no single rule when to sell, but examining a few important points can help you determine when it’s the right time to tell your stock “Goodbye sucker!”

Company is flat lining. Take a look at the stock’s issuing company. If the company doesn’t have a competitive advantage and has lost money for consecutive quarters, the timing might be right to get out.

Max risk tolerance. When a stock has dipped so low that it hits your risk tolerance threshold, get out while you still have time to make up for any losses incurred with your portfolio.

Your stock is like a weed. When your stock is taking over your investment portfolio, it may be good time to sell some of that stock and use the money to diversify your portfolio.

Bank drafts are a safer payment alternative that instills security in the person who requests them and the person or business that receives them. Even though many banks are pushing through initiatives to significantly reduce paper use, via such payment methods as account clearing house (ACH) debits/credits and credit/debit card transactions, these methods can not provide the security a bank draft does. Discover the three main forms of bank draft along with the pros and cons of each.

What a Bank Draft is

A bank draft simply is a guaranteed check issued by a bank. A person who requests a bank draft will directly fund the draft and pay a fee to the issuing bank for holding the funds until the bank draft is redeemed. There are three main forms of bank drafts in use, the cashier’s check, certified check, and money order.

The Cashier’s Check

A cashier’s check is a type of bank draft.
